Fr. Matthew D. Stanley is currently pastor at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Parish in the Evergreen Community in the Diocese of San José. He was also pastor at Holy Family Parish (San José) and St. Thomas Aquinas Parish (Palo Alto). He has been a priest for over thirty-one years.
He has a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from St. Joseph College Seminary (1986) and a Master’s of Divinity degree from St. Patrick Seminary (1991).
He currently serves on the Vocations and Lay Leadership Formation committees. He was the recent chair of the Council of Priests. He has worked with the San José Cursillo and Engaged Encounter communities.
Fr. Stanley began a new Mental Health Ministry called 3GEN+ at St. Francis of Assisi a few years ago to educate, advocate and support the elderly, families, and youth. He refers to mental health disorders as the “last taboo”—a subject many people are afraid to discuss.
Fr. Matt is an avid and passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He enjoys watch reality television shows and reading books on Politics and Church history. He was involved in acting while in high School and college. His present “first lady” is his 11-year old tabby cat named Julie.
