WELCOME TO ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI PARISH
We are joyful that you have chosen our parish community to celebrate the Baptism of your child!
As you prepare for this beautiful sacrament, you are invited to pause, reflect, and renew your own commitment to living as disciples of Christ in the Catholic faith. Your love, prayer, and example will shape the faith journey of your child. This is a sacred and grace-filled time, reminding us that we are all children of God, called into covenant with Him and with one another through our parish community.
PLEASE NOTE:
Our Baptismal Coordinators and Parish Priests will accept inquiries only from the parents of the child to be baptized. All communication must come directly through the parents. This helps us keep the process clear, personal, and well-organized. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Please plan ahead and allow at least two months for the entire preparation process. Kindly read all instructions carefully.
A baptism date will remain tentative until all requirements have been completed.
Preparing for the Sacrament of Baptism
Before a Baptism date can be confirmed, the following requirements must be completed. These steps help ensure that your family is fully prepared to celebrate this sacred moment in the life of your child and our parish community.
Required Documents and Preparation:
Completed Baptismal Request Form
Child’s County Birth Certificate
(A hospital certificate is acceptable if the child has just been born and the County certificate has not yet been issued. The County certificate must be submitted later.)
Signed Godparent Affirmation Letters
Completed Baptism Preparation Class
(Please provide a class certificate if taken at another parish.)
Baptismal Offering (see below)
The Process
Once all requirements are gathered, please bring the documents to the Parish Office or email them as attachments to rosie.olivas@dsj.org.
After all documents are received, you will be contacted within two weeks. Your Baptismal Coordinator will provide a scheduled preparation class date (if needed) and a tentative Baptism date.

Baptismal Preparation Class
As you prepare to welcome your child into the life of faith, both parents and godparents are asked to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class. This gathering helps all who will guide the child’s faith journey to reflect on the meaning of Baptism and the shared responsibility of nurturing a life rooted in Christ.
Your Baptismal Staff Coordinator will register the parents for the class.
Parents are responsible for informing the godparents of the scheduled date and time.
Class Requirements:
If you have completed a Baptism Preparation Class within the last three years, you are not required to take the class again.
If the class was taken at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, please provide:
• Child’s name
• Year of Baptism
If the class was taken at another parish or online, we will need a copy of the class certificate.
When taking the class elsewhere or online, parents and godparents must attend the same course, so that all who will stand at the font share the same foundation of preparation.
Permission from Another Parish
If you are registered at another parish but wish to celebrate your child’s Baptism here at St. Francis of Assisi, we kindly ask for a letter of permission from your home parish. This helps ensure that we honor the shared responsibility of the Church community in preparing your family for this sacrament.
Taking a Baptismal Preparation Class at St. Francis of Assisi
If your child will be baptized at another parish but you would like to attend the Baptismal Preparation Class here at St. Francis of Assisi, you are welcome to do so if space is available.
We will need the following information:
The date of the scheduled Baptism
The name of the parish where the Baptism will take place
A $25 donation is requested to support the ministry of sacramental preparation.
Additional details about the class will be shared once we are able to schedule you.
